Background Checks

Can I get a copy of my Background or Drug Certification?

Yes. Please contact us and we will provide a method to obtain a copy of your report(s).

What happens if I fail my Background Certification?

You will be contacted by BlueRibbon and/or our provider and will be given an opportunity to dispute any results. If the disqualifying record(s) are not able to be removed from the report, we will not be able to award certification

Why is my Background Certification taking so long?

At BlueRibbon, we take background certifications seriously, which is why ours are some of the most thorough around. While it's true that some background certifications can be completed in a few hours or a day, they are typically simple database screens that are not compliant with most of our adopters' requirements.

While all of the background certifications conducted by BlueRibbon do include a database screen, we take it further with physical court record checks. Depending on the courts, these checks typically take 5 to 10 business days for the Gold level and 3 to 10 business days for the Silver level. It may occasionally take longer if a court causes delay.

We thank you for your patience, and we'll notify you as soon as your Background Certification has been completed.

Are copies of my Background or Drug Certification free?

There may be a small charge by our provider to obtain your report(s).

Credentials

How do I share my credentials?

You can selectively share your credentials with anyone you desire. Just go to the sharing section of your profile, click on New Share. You will then type in the name of the person or organization that you would like to share credentials with, enter the viewers email address, then select only the credentials you wish to share. Keep in mind that when you share credentials, the viewer only gets to view your credentials once. You choose with whom you share your credentials, which credentials you wish to share and when you want to share. Simple and safe!

Can I share some credentials but not others?

Yes, there is no limit to the granularity in sharing credentials. For instance, you could share your references and business licenses with Bob, only your references with Alice, or all of your credentials with an enterprise where you are applying for work. There is no limit to the granularity in sharing your credentials.

Do credentials carry a pass/fail designation?

Some screening credentials (e.g. drug tests and background checks) do carry a pass/fail. Most just carry a "Not Verified" or "Verified" status.

How can I add screening credentials to my profile?

Simply expand the Screening Credentials section of your profile and click on the blue shopping cart icon for the credentials you want to add and the system will walk you through the process start to finish.

How can I get credentials verified?

As you upload and list credentials in your profile, there will be a "Verify" button to the right of the credential if BlueRibbon offers verification. Click the Verify button and it will be added to your Cart.

Because we cannot anticipate all possible claims and credentials, we cannot guarantee we will have verification available for all credentials in your profile. As specific credentials become more common among our members, we will consider adding verification. If you would like verfication for a credential for which it is not offered, please contact BlueRibbon Support and make your request.

How can I use the badges attached to my credentials?

Coming Soon - BlueRibbon will be launching badges which will give you the opportunity to post your credentials badges on your social media accounts, e.g. FaceBook & LinkedIn, to brag about yourself and provide proof that you are someone of high trust, safety, and character.

How do I list or upload my credentials?

Simply click on the + sign to the right of the section where you want to add the credential and it will take you to a form where you can enter the required information and upload associated documents.

How do I purchase verifications or other credentials?

If you want to verify any of your credentials, you will see the cost to the right of each credential in your profile. In addition to verifying credentials, you can also purchase personal screening credentials from BlueRibbon. The available screening credentials and related pricing can be found next to the credential in your profile and also in the "Packeges" list to the right of your profile. To purchase, simply click on the cart icon to add to cart and go to Checkout when ready to input your card information.

Is there a cost to share my credentials?

No. You can share with as many people or organizations as you desire at no cost. There is also no cost to the people and organizations to access your shared credentials.

Is there a cost to verify credentials?

Yes. Each verification will carry a fee. The fee can be seen to the right of the credential in your profile next to the "Verify" button.

What are the different types of background checks offered?

We offer a Silver and a Gold background check. Visit the Certifications page to find the details on each before you decide what to purchase.

What are the different types of credentials offered?

Credentials are broken into logical categories in your profile, e.g. Personal Screening, Education, Skills.

What credentials are free and which ones do I pay for?

You can list any credential you want to in your profile and upload supporting documents entirely free.

What does verification mean?

When you list or upload a credential, it is only your claim. And, there is no proof that supporting documents haven't been edited. BlueRibbon is the 3rd party verification service that will verify many of your claims and credentials so the people you share them with can be certain that they are real.

What if I already have a screening credential, e.g. background check?

You can certainly upload your screening credential into your profile but BlueRibbon cannot verify the results since we did not run the check.

What is a Credential?

The definition of a credential is a qualification, achievement, personal quality, or aspect of a person's background, typically when used to indicate that they are suitable for something. So, your BlueRibbon credentials can be used for a variety of purpsoses including, but not limited to, seeking a job, applying for housing, signing up as a volunteer, or even engaging in online dating. All of these activities require some level of credentialing.

What is AuthenticateMe?

Authenticate Me is an identity verification credential. With the proliferation of crowd sourcing an the sharing economy, it's becoming a requirement more often that you verify you are who you say you are.

What passes for a pass/fail credential?

That depends on the credential. You can see the pass/fail requirements for screening credentials on the Certifications page. For other credentials, verification depends on the specific credential.

Can I apply a previous certification here with BlueRibbon?

You can upload/list any credential you already own at no charge. If we offer verification of a credential, the fee to verify will be listed next to the credential and you can request verification. We go to great lengths to verify all credentials and we only provide results to clients that you authorize in your profile. Unfortunately, we cannot apply/verify most personal screening credentials(e.g. background checks, drug tests, MVR history) not initiated by BlueRibbon. There are many laws and regulations that dictate personal screening credentialing.

Drug Testing

I've missed my drug testing period. What should I do now?

If you do not complete your drug test within the defined window from the original order date, the test registration will expire and you will not receive a refund. So, before you submit your order, be sure you’re going to have some time to get to the lab. Lab locations will be emailed to you and there should be a lab within 30 miles of your home. Additionally, if your drug testing period has expired, you will be required to submit another payment to schedule another test.

What if Medical Marijuana is legal in my state?

Because Medical Marijuana is not legal in ALL states, unfortunately, we cannot represent you as passing the BlueRibbon certification in this case. Many people work or operate in multiple states, and we cannot represent you as having passed based on where you live, but rather, on the basis of your eligibility nationally and at the highest level of standards. However, you will be contacted by the Medical Review Board, and if you have a medical marijuana prescription/card, you will be instructed how to present it. The report will still show as a Positive, but the prescription/card will be noted on the record. BlueRibbon can send you a copy of the report to allow you to present the official record to perspective clients who do accept medical marijuana.

For more information regarding this, and other prescription drugs, please see the related FAQ: "What if I am using a prescription drug?"

What if I am using a prescription drug?

If your drug test returns a positive result for a disqualifying drug, you will be contacted by BlueRibbon and/or our provider AFTER the test and given an opportunity to present a valid prescription, and have your report updated. Do not bring your prescription to the Lab, they cannot process it there.

Marijuana will still report as positive, and therefore will not be qualified for a BlueRibbon Drug Certification. To be listed as BlueRibbon Certified, the final report must reflect "negative", so that the designation of "Certified" is valid across the nation. A marijuana prescription, however, will be noted on the report if presented. BlueRibbon can send you a copy of the report to allow you to present the official record to perspective clients who do accept medical marijuana.

For more information on Medical Marijuana, please see the related FAQ: Medical Marijuana is legal in my state.

What if I fail my drug test?

All failures, including leaving a lab without a confirmed usable sample (marked as refusal by the labs), Negative Dilute (over-hydration which dilutes the sample), and positive for any of the substances listed in Certification Definitions, are not certified. You may re-purchase a test and retake it at any time.

Where are my closest testing locations for my Drug Certification?

After you have ordered the drug test, you will receive an email notice that includes the lab location. The location is usually within 30 miles of the address on your profile.

Why haven't I received my testing locations for my Drug Certification?

An email notice was sent to you after you ordered the test. It includes the location and the chain of custody paperwork for you to bring to the lab. Please check your junk mail box. If you still cannot locate it, please contact us to request another copy.

Are copies of my Background or Drug Certification free?

There may be a small charge by our provider to obtain your report(s).

The quickest way to get started is to register with your Facebook account and start uploading/listing credentials. There is no cost to get started.

I've changed my mind about ordering/verifying a credential. Can I get a refund?

We're sorry, BlueRibbon does not offer refunds for ordering/verifying credentials. Once initiated, our providers charge BlueRibbon immediately.

Will I pass my Background/Drug Certification?

You should review the criteria for the certification you're considering on the Certification Definitions page. If you feel you will fail any of the criteria, you may not want to invest in the certification.

However, it is difficult for us to advise you specifically regarding this matter. Each adopter is unique in terms of what is acceptable when considering specific aspects of certification background check/drug test results. For example, there may be cases where a member will fail to pass a particular check/test to BlueRibbon's certification standards, but may still be able to use those credentials with some clients.

What is an Adopter?

A BlueRibbon adopter is an organization that recognizes and accepts BlueRibbon as a reputable credentialing service. The adopter has been set up with a dashboard and/or API to view and verify credentials that you authorize them to see.

What is a Sponsor Code?

If you have an adopter/organization that has agreed to pay for some of your credential costs, you must receive a Sponsor Code from the client and enter it in your shopping cart during checkout. When the code is validated, you will see the "amount charged" field will be reduced by the amount your adopter has assigned to the sponsor code issued to you and the order form will only ask for your credit card information to pay for any outstanding balance if you have exceeded the sponsor amount.

How can I add or remove credentials from someone I authorized to view them?

Why should I care about my BlueScore?

The BlueScore is derived from your BlueRibbon profile. The more active you are, the more credentials you add to your profile, the better your BlueScore. Character, Safety, and Trust are much more than a credit score.

Why should I register with BlueRibbon?

It's FREE to register and start your profile on BlueRibbon. It’s a good place to centralize and share your credentials selectively. In most other social media platforms, your credentials are either shared or not with everyone. You can also start building your BlueScore, a score that we expect to become widely accepted in the near future.

Does BlueRibbon make "qualification" decisions?

No. Whether its employment, dating, volunteering, applying for an apartment, or anything else, BlueRibbon makes no qualification decisions. All qualification decisions are made by the people you authorize to view your credentials.
